Sigh.
I should KNOW better than to complain about warm weather in the winter time.

Damn it!

And I had to DRIVE TO WORK through the worst of this stupid snowstorm.

And home, through a frozen parking lot at both ends.

Grumble grumble grumble.

Off to bed.

Oh, and plans are underway for the film. Also, I may have found a good venue for the Faerie Fling. How does Shrewsbury sound to all of you?

I can get a space in which I can do my own catering, and it has its own little stage and kitchen areas. It's big enough (and lord knows I have enough decorations in my possession to decorate a shah's harem...)

It's not a hotel or a dance club, but the price is right.
I would have to do the dance on a Friday night, though.

Sound off!

Are we talking about that community center that's down in Todd's old neighborhood, the one that the SCFFS/SLSFFS holiday party was at last year, the one that's about four blocks east of Laclede Station Road? If so, I think it's very doable. A bit of a nuissance to find, but ample parking good sized space, ample restrooms, and as you say good kitchen facilities. The only downside I see is that it's a trifle sterile, but how much that can be fixed will depend only on how much money you have to throw at decor, how much labor you have to throw at pre-assembly, and how many hours in advance you can have the space to do setup. All in all, very doable, especially if the price is right.

The Shrewsbury community center. And it is most likely the same location as that other event. There's a local church group which has booked it for every Saturday Night for the foreseeable future, but I think we can get it on a Friday night instead.

I'm astonished that you're showing interest, oddly enough. You were such a nay-sayer for the last one.

Does that mean that you'd be willing to come, and pay between $10 and $20 for the privilege?

There will be food and soft drinks, and probably simple booze, such as boxed wine and beer.
There will be performance art, and a DJ.
There will be prizes, and possibly a separate raffle.
There will be a costume contest.

This is, after all, a fundraiser.

$20, no. As I said at the time, the only fund-raiser that gets anything like that much money out of me for a party is the annual formal costume ball for St. Louis Effort for AIDS; you priced yourself way out of my margin. $5 would be a slam dunk, especially if you hold it on a weekend with few conflicts. $10 is probably persuadable, especially if you don't book it in conjunction with a psychic fair.

You should know that I have no objection to fund-raising parties; I used to have a great time at Spring Fling and Fall Ball back when they were $5 cover potluck events, pay for your own drinks, at the Way Out Club. The last time, my three objections were that it was during an already over-crowded part of the party season, that you priced yourself out of the market, and that it was in conjunction with a New Agey psychic fair and therefore I was afraid that would be the crowd that it would attract. You don't seem to be inclined to repeat any of those factors, so yeah, it sounds to me like a good idea.

Yet it did well, and attracted the snappily dressed GOTH party crowd.

And $15 was out of your price range? When it included food?

Or was it *really* that you have such disgust and loathing for anything that smells faintly new-agey that you wouldn't have spent even $5 to support the troupe?

Snort. That holistic faire would have been a brilliant place to sell mind machines, BTW.

$15, well, maybe if it hadn't been such a crowded party season but well, yeah, probably too much. And yeah, while I know a lot of the people involved in selling the New Age and many of them are pretty OK, their customers mostly disgust me. And Kukla, I'm out of mind machines. I haven't had any in stock in almost two years, and don't have any current dealer arrangements; I'm out of that business.

Is a Faerie Fling anything like a Dwarf Toss?

Unfortunately, the belt's rather tight these days. Anything that requires green stuff is out of my league.
