I went to dye my hair today, and the two half-bottles of red dye I thought I had turned into three partial bottles with not enough between them to get the job done.

So I did the roots, then pawed through my stash to see if I had another bottle squirreled away somewhere, and found a bottle of FX Purple.

Yeah. Straight-up purple.

Wellllll....
My boss is out of town this week, and I have time before Archon to change it if it goes wrong...

I used the purple.

I should be clear about this, though; I do not change my base color when I dye my hair. I do not use peroxide or ammonia. What I'm really doing is staining my hair, layering whatever color I'm using over my base color, which is a dark ash blonde. It's the kind of blonde that comes out kind of dark dishwater and when the sun hits it goes tri-colored.

I rinsed out the goop and let it dry to see what it did.

I have achieved a shade of chestnut that surprised me.

I must be the only one I know who can try to dye my hair purple and wind up looking perfectly ordinary.
