It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
...under my tree, anyway.

(Relieved sigh)
I ended up with some unexpected budget for Christmas gifts after all!

Most recently, our store ran out of big showy bows to put on gift-wrapped sewing machines.

I said, "Oh. I have some bows at my Mom's house. Shall I bring them in?"

My boss asked if they were big decorator bows and I said that they were. She offered me a few bucks each for the bows.

"How many?" I asked. "I have a lot of them."
"Oh, just bring in as many as you can."

The next chance I got I brought in the lot. I carefully counted out the 25 nicest and prettiest bows from the bags. This was only about a third of my collection.

Today I asked my supervisor about it (since we haven't worked together since I had left them for her.)

She lit up and wrote me out a slip to put in Ms. Jackman's box for reimbursement. "They were GREAT!" she said. "You want, what? Three dollars a piece for them?"
I agreed to that. In a heartbeat!

Ms. Jackman personally brought me the envelope with the cash "reimbursement". She was THRILLED with them and she and my supervisor discussed sharing them with other stores and putting them in a "special" place.

Also, Ms. Jackman tried to make off with them, and my supervisor had to rescue them and return them to our department.

Heh.

Here's the punch line for me.
I made those bows (well, some of them) for my Once And Future Boss at the condo where I used to work. He would let his inner interior decorator loose every November, and decorate the lobby and outdoor walkway like a high-end department store. This meant that once he determined that year's "theme," the desk staff was put to work making bows with the appropriate ribbons. They are three-tiered ribbon bows, usually with rich brocade and/or metallic wired ribbons. These then went on the trees, on the posts, on the dozen or so wreaths inside, and the four or five wreaths outside. His "Christmas" decorating was and is always spectacular.

And he would hand off the bows to whichever desk staff member wanted them after Christmas was over.

That would be me. I use them for Ren Faire stuff and for random other events where I might need bows. I have used them for weddings and to decorate my booth at festivals.

And they spend the rest of the time shoved into big industrial sized trash bags.

In my mom's basement.

These bows cost me NOTHING but storage time.
And I got $3 a piece for them.
And both Jackman's and myself feel that this was a great deal!

(To be fair, there was usually more than $3 worth of ribbon in each bow. At retail prices anyway. My Once And Future Boss was always very thrifty, buying all of "next year's" ribbon at the after Christmas 75% off sales.)

This is great, because it means I can afford to be slightly more generous than I originally thought!

Ho Ho Ho!
