What SHALL I BE?
Oct. 21st, 2004 10:58 pmSo, here I am, the Queen of Halloween herself, and I have no earthly idea about what I am going to wear on October 31st, or to any costume contests around town.
Here are my ideas, in random order. Feel free to chime in.
I still get "one outfit" at 50% off, including accessories. I haven't chosen it yet, and have spent quite a bit already. Most of these ideas exploit some random costume or accessory that I would love to have for other things:
Idea 1: Group
I put my SO in a white robe, buy the *wizard wig and beard*, and an *angel halo*.
I put Allura in a white sheet, cut to resemble Charlie Brown's Halloween costume. (Lots of eye-holes, all over the sheet.
I wear the *Jesus costume* complete with beard and wig, and we go as the holy Trinity:
The FATHER the SON and the HOLEY GHOST.
Bwa ha ha.
Idea 2: For the Kids
It has become traditional that I dress up to match the kids on Halloween. Last year, I dressed to match the Decor; A Butterfly caught in a Spider's Web. This year the Boy will be a Jedi Knight, and the Girl will be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.
I could be Princess Leia, in a white dress and do the Space Buns on the sides of my head.
I could be any of the Oz characters, including but not limited to:
Glinda (In a dress that is not really her pink, but I think I can carry it off.)
The Scarecrow: In a peasant shirt, generic pants, and felt hat, paint my face and maybe make a burlap neckpiece. Oh. And lots of straw.
The Tin Man: Not going to happen. Just forget it.
The Lion: Tempting. I could put my own spin on it, and despite years of cat costumes, I have never actually been a lion before.
The Wizard: Both my SO and Allura (and my step dad, for that matter) own tuxedos. I can buy a top hat at the store. And carry a big black bag full of trinkets...
The Wicked Witch of the West/East: Both gags that I have done before. For the witch of the east, I wear a red dress and the red sparkly shoes... and rant about that little girl STEALING my SHOES!!! Kids today, hit and run and STEAL YOUR SHOES!!
A Winged Monkey: (Sigh.) that would be cool, but I don't have time. Plus we don't sell Fez hats at the store.
Idea 3: Only bad witches are ugly
I did acquire a beautiful white witch's hat at the store. I could make something up for the rest of it and be a White Witch, with a white owl, and paint a cauldron white to go with it. I also considered adding white feathered wings and explaining to everyone that Martyred witches (IE those who were tried and killed for being a witch) automatically go to heaven. Snerk.
That's all I have right now. I am sort of waiting for inspiration to hit me. (It usually does. Right upside the head.)
All of these are neat ideas, but I just can't decide. We'll see...
In the mean time, I have to get my plates renewed. (Whoops. They expired LAST MONTH. Oh, yeah right. Like I had TIME to breathe before Archon...)
I get to go see Man of La Mancha tomorrow night (That's Friday.) Anyone else want to go?
We have the children this weekend, so NO we will NOT be attending
the_geoffrey's big Halloween Party, since we have no intention of dumping those kids off on someone or dragging them to an adult party. Also, I have to work on Saturday, and so Saturday night will be my only Play With The Kids time, and I want to make Caramel Apples with them. Mmmm. Caramel Apples. (Drool...) Also, spider cookies and Ghostly Nites. (Ok, they're just Nightie Nites but with carefully placed chocolate chips to make Ghost Faces.) They love to bake with me, and the Boy is getting old enough to to the really fun stuff like run the mixer and actually measure the wet ingredients. And the girl loves to do ANYTHING with me, especially "Girl things."
Sigh.
I'll have to break her of that and broaden her horizons.
After Halloween, I have (potentially) a job lined up with Jackman's Fabrics in their sewing machine department. I think I can handle retail sales through Xmas if it's something that specialized... I hope so... I so hate retail in Advent. (Shudder.)
Oh. And a friend of mine is planning (once again) to throw her (now annual) Nightmare Before Christmas party, probably the first or second weekend of December. So, grab a Halloween Costume or make up a new one, and see me for more details. The last one was really fun. She grew up Jewish, so she took an almost perverse pleasure in decorating her "First Christmas Tree" with spiderwebs and pretty bows. (It's OURS this TIME!)
