Nothing new and New Nothing...
May. 8th, 2011 08:42 pmRehearsals are coming along. As usual, I suspect that we'll get to the show and everyone will wring their hands and wish for another week's worth of rehearsal.
Oh well. The good news is that the scenes are fast-paced with plenty of movement and silliness. I really do hate "Dry, Vomitless Shakespeare", by which I mean sober, over-stuffed with self-importance talking heads with no sense of humor.
The Bard wrote some FUNNY comedy. I can't stand to see the comedies done like a political debate. Get those characters moving around, get those silent characters mugging for the crowd, and make the audience ROFL.
Much Ado About Nothing is still one of my favorite plays, despite a few minor quibbles. The fun of doing the show myself means I can bulldoze the scenes I don't care for and highlight the parts that I think are the funniest.
This week is packed full of the wild, the weird, and the wacky. The Ladiez are coming (WHOO!!!) and I have rehearsals scheduled, and of course there's that sword of Damocles that falls on Friday.
In other words, if you are not artists from Wisconsin, actors for my show, or someone involved with the court, please don't add anything to my plate this week. Thanks!
