Saw Batman.
(At a sold out show. On a Monday night. WTF?)
I must tell you that this cast of characters was brilliant, the city was the Gotham I've been waiting for (cough-cough CHICAGO cough-cough) and the story was the kind of thing that inspires me to buy graphic novels.
In other words, Damn!
Heath Ledger (rest him) really did present a magnificent Joker. I'm not just saying that because he's dead, either. This is the Joker I've been waiting to see.
Gary Oldman has been a favorite of mine for many years, but I was thoroughly pleased that he set aside his scene chewing ways to provide us with a perfectly played Jim Gordon. I mean, he just dissolved into that part!
My sorrow that I will never see Billy Dee Williams play Two-Face was overshadowed by my delight with Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent.
Morgan Freeman (and you all know how much I adore HIM) returned as Lucius Fox, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he is having the time of his life with it. He still gets some of the best lines.
Michael Caine's Alfred is also delightful (if somewhat brief) but he ought to watch out; Dumbledore is going to come and steal back his glasses.
Maggie Gyllenhaal takes up the mantle of "Rachel" but I was distracted by how much she resembles a young Linda Carter. I was having sort of dizzy "Justice League" moments there...
Oh.
And Batman is in it. Here's the spoiler: Now he can turn his head. This, oddly enough, makes him look even more like an action figure than before, and yet it doesn't appear to have improved his mobility or speed. Oh well.
It was just wonderful! Mayhem! Drama! A Bat-cycle! Explosions! Helicopters!
Exploding Helicopters!
See it in digital projection if you can. I intend to see it again later, probably NOT sitting in the second row, extreme audience left.

Date: 2008-07-23 12:04 am (UTC)However, it was the trailer for "The Watchmen" that made me cry. Go figure.
I have a purple suit. Find me a green wig, will ya? My Archon costuming needs to be simple since it will be done mostly from afar ;^)
