Shameless begging
Aug. 5th, 2015 11:08 pmShameless, because it's for someone else.
I don't know Sam.
I kind of wish I did; he seems like a pretty awesome guy. The reason he's raising funds is because he's a cancer survivor, and his doctors have encouraged him to get a double-mastectomy as a precaution against breast cancer, which runs in his family.
Now, you and I both know that men can get breast cancer. As a trans-identified man, cancer survivor, and with his family history, he's more likely than the average cis-gendered man to develop breast cancer.
The doctors are pretty clear about why the double mastectomy is mandatory.
BUT.
Because he's a trans person, his insurance will not cover the surgery, despite it being prescribed by the doctors for health reasons alone.
As someone who has lived without insurance for most of my life, I can solidly sympathize with this person.
I'm broke. Like, for real-broke.
I came up with $20 to throw at this.
How much can you come up with?
