Seeking helpers
Nov. 3rd, 2014 12:39 amWe have this cool Doll convention coming up in a couple of weeks. The 2014 St. Louis Ball Jointed Doll Convention is happening November 14-16. That's Friday and Saturday for programming, and a field trip on Sunday.
Here's the deal;
We could use some assistance. I'm seeking people who might be willing to come out and pitch in for a few hours here or there. If you're willing to come out for one day or the other, that would be great too.
We need helpers to set up the dealer's room on Thursday night. We need helpers to break it down on Saturday early evening.
We need helpers to assist with set up for the convention on Thursday night as well, and helpers to set the building to rights on Saturday night.
Since we are using Overland Baptist Church's Educational Building, we have no porters. Period. We need people to set up and remove tables, move folding chairs in the cafeteria (off of tables and back on tables.) We need people to help carry items from the building to the correct cars.
We also need people to do less strenuous things. We're going to need some "security" people to do simple tasks like making sure that tickets are collected for meals and paid workshops. We need staff for our HQ/Doll Sitting/Coat Check room, and if I had a few volunteers no one would be stuck in there all day. We could use some warm bodies to do things like fetch and carry; we used to call these "Go-Fers" in Fannish Lingo.
"Gee, Kukla. Why would we want to come and work for you for free? None of us like Ball Jointed Dolls. What's in it for us?"
Well, a couple of things. I'm fine with offering food to the break-down crew. We have a banquet on Saturday night, and if you're willing to help us reset the rooms and haul out the boxes, I'll feed you handsomely.
How about the set up crew? Have some pizza.
Our Volunteer Coordinator is going to provide some hand-crafted meals for the volunteer crew, too, so if you come out to help during the con you won't go hungry.
But wait, there's more:
One of our most successful fundraisers was the (Board) Game Day series. We're going to continue those (often), and I want to offer free tickets to upcoming Game Day events in exchange for working on the convention. Here's a sneak peek: We're working on bringing in and showcasing local game designers at upcoming events. Let that sink in for a minute.
A free ticket to a Game Day gets you raffle tickets, too.
Plus, of course, there's my eternal gratitude.
If you can help, let me know directly. Feel free to bring a friend, a spouse, a significant other, an able-bodied kid, an able-bodied parent, or anyone who can help, really.
And those of you who have even the faintest interest in Ball Jointed Dolls, Monster High Dolls, Articulated Action Figures or Fantasy Art?
Register now. There's even day-passes.
This year's convention is particularly awesome.
And just wait until you find out what we're doing next year...
