Here, Kitty Kitty?
Jul. 6th, 2014 08:27 pmThe show last Wednesday was awesome.
Some amateaur, some professional, some drag, some burlesque, some boylesque, some king show, some experimental theater... warm, friendly audience.
We arrived after 10pm and managed to get a table without any trouble. It's a small crowd on Wednesdays.
The Deal is this:
Wednesday night is Ladies' night. No cover for ladies (or those presenting as ladies.) Drinks are buy one get one half-off for ladies (and those presenting as Ladies.)
The show is slated to start at 9:30, but Show Me Charlotte (the mistress in charge) is as punctual as... er... I am.
At the end of the show, they do a Drag-Off and encourage members of the audience to come up and play. They play various (random) songs and each person dances their way down the runway. Its part audience-participation, part potential audition, part joyful exuberance.
After the show, they clear the floor of tables and people dance. Not a whole lot of people, but there's music with a good beat and I can make that work.
The club closes down at 1am.
I'm starting to get a feel for the crowd and it's a neat crowd. Very varied. LGBT and all other members of the rainbow spectrum, allies, and fans of random theater.
What we did was go to the Tiki Bar in the Grove to get rum drinks first, then toddled over to Attitudes for the show. This turned out to be wise, though I did take advantage of the drink special to get some honey liquor in shot form. (That was tasty!)
So, does anyone want to join in on the fun? Gentlemen, if you wish to present as a lady, let me know. I can help. Mwa ha ha. The dress code looks very random. Dress up, dress down, show up in street-legal underwear... whatever. I intend to comb my wardrobe for pieces that qualify as "fun to dance in" and invent some new outfits. I mean, the goth finery is certainly on deck, but I can play farther afield at a friendly, upbeat pride bar.
