I bitched about The Prestige, when I should have been telling everyone about how fabulous my Sunday really was:

Part 1: Woke up, everyone had things to do. I, however, went back to bed and SLEPT. (Sigh) oooohhhhyesssss....

Part 2: Woke up again, it was about 11:30. [livejournal.com profile] bakadragon had mentioned that she was going to try to have her beloved pet's Viking Funeral Rites that day at noon. I called her. She and [livejournal.com profile] sunyudai had recently arisen themselves, and so we all headed to showers for the removal of funk. I also talked to [livejournal.com profile] mari_who, since she and I were supposed to be going to the Victorian thing in the afternoon. She asked if she could come to the Viking Funeral, too, and I told her that I'd come get her if I had time.

I didn't. They got ready in record time and got to my house right about when I finished putting on my boots and [livejournal.com profile] thesigother came back from Taiko practice. I waited a bit to tell this story since it really is [livejournal.com profile] bakadragon's story to tell... but feh. I can't keep quiet forever!

I mentioned my boots. I should point out that if I SHOULD costume for an event, I will. If I MAY costume for an event, I'll do that, too. If I CAN costume for an event, I'll do it. If I can get AWAY with costuming for an event... well, you get the picture.

I was a Viking that morning, so I put on my green medieval dress that laces up the sides, my leggings, and my lace-up suede boots. I threw on a warm hooded cloak and belted on a sword belt, and we were off. I gathered some lamp oil and a walking staff, [livejournal.com profile] thesigother wisely grabbed a wad of paper towels, and we went down the street to the park where there's access to the river.

Of course, it would have worked better if I had managed to actually put that lighter I intended to bring... you know... IN THE CAR.

[livejournal.com profile] thesigother went back and brought two boxes of matches. He's very clever: One box for lighting, the other to go in the ship. This is wise because it would not only help catch the thing on fire, it would be a very nice thing for the Viking Hamster to have with him in Valhalla.

[livejournal.com profile] bakadragon did a fantastic job of creating a mighty Viking ship just the right size for the beloved deceased.

We found a good spot with a flat rock to launch from. I hastily constructed a torch out of driftwood, paper towels and a bit of lamp oil. We also found a great pokey stick to launch the ship with.

The ship itself was on a raft to keep it afloat. However, the lamp oil had saturated the raft and made it soggy, and it clung to the rock instead of shoving out to sea (er the river) with the boat.
On its own... the boat kind of listed to starboard and then flopped over.
And since its contents were still aflame, it belched smoke and smoke filled bubbles as the current jostled it.

Then it drifted in a direction that was going to have it washed up on the shore.

Someone got a brilliant idea: Sink it before it reaches the shoreline... where that nice gentleman is trying to teach his son to fish...

Hence the hurling of big heavy (slimy) rocks at the remains of the ship.

With limited success, I might add, but I had a great (and dry, and clean) view from up on the higher ground.

We sent him on to Valhalla in style, and then trouped back up the hill to the cars. Suede boots are great for climbing, but mine are a little too big so I'll wear extra socks next time.

We returned to my place for hot tea and honeyed toast, which seemed appropriate somehow.

Just in time for [livejournal.com profile] allura629 to return from her mandatory family fun. She was wired to the rafters on coffee and wondering why no one answered the phone.
We all answered, "Because we were lighting a hamster on fire!"

I sent [livejournal.com profile] thesigother to get [livejournal.com profile] mari_who while I got dressed for the next round.
After all, the Chatillion-Demenil house was NOT doing anything on Viking Mourning Practices, now were they?
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen happenstances, [livejournal.com profile] mari_who had to bow out at the last minute.

Part 3: [livejournal.com profile] bakadragon and [livejournal.com profile] sunyudai went home and the three of us went to the "A Death In The Family" event down at the Chatillion-DeMenil house.

I swept my Viking tresses into a lady's bouffant, buttoned my deep purple shirt to the neck, put on my layers of skirts, and laced up my black boots.

The presenters were excellent. The costumes were fabulous, the details were brilliant, and the house is gorgeous. [livejournal.com profile] yume_no_tenshi was there in her very accurate costume. I would tell you that she looked beautiful, (and she did) but she was dressed in extremely accurate Fresh Mourning, which is specifically designed NOT to be beautiful. She was *authentic.*

The event was amazing, and I want to work for it next year. I think we will also try to gather a group of carolers for their Candlelight Vigil coming up for the Holiday season. (If you've read this far and like to sing, let me know if you are interested. Rehearsals begin immediately.)

And then, Part 4: we went to Yac's for dinner. Mmm. Beef.

After that we went to the Mills to see a movie. We watched The Prestige. If you want to know more about THAT, go check out my review in the previous post.
