Godammit, I'm feeling a rant coming on.

And since it's a rant about whiny crybabies, I'll go ahead and cut it.

**EDIT** Huh. I almost turned off comments to this entry because the point is that I don't really CARE anymore if an entry of mine doesn't generate comments. It is nice, I don't MIND it or anything, but I don't feel bad if no one comments.
I assumed that it would NOT generate comments, and so there you go. *Amused*
The text behind the cut is NOT, in fact, my whining that no one reads my journal. Of *course* people read my journal. I never doubted THAT!

This is bitchy. I'm warning you.

You know, I ought to be more gentle hearted about this subject. There's been a few times when I posted something that I felt was amazing, or interesting, or funny, or important... and yet no one commented and I felt cheated. There's been times when I posted some kind of meme or question and got NOTHING in response to it. Heck, I'm a very tiny celebrity for some of the fiction and parodies that I have posted here, but very few (if any) people commented on these things when I posted them.

But you know what? I grew the hell up about it.

I took a longer view and started paying attention to other journals, and looked for the kinds of things that were really good, or interesting, or special, or funny... which don't generate responses.
Sometimes, you simply say everything that needs to be said on a subject. Sometimes no one disagrees with you, and therefore rather than looking like some idiot NOOB who always posts, "OMG UR SO FUNNEH" all the time. Sometimes what was written is simply not interesting enough to generate comments in this forum. Sometimes everyone reads what you posted, and is so blessed excited that they rush right out to tell other people about the post, without stopping to give you a comment.

I believe it was a certain Ferret who indicated that sometimes a post doesn't leave much room for comment. It isn't that people aren't reading it, it has nothing to do with the merit of the piece, it just means that everyone read it, nodded thoughtfully and then went about their business.

Livejournal has SPOILED us, kids.

If we were publishing a newsletter, or a column in a local paper, we wouldn't receive the immediate gratification of "comments" on what we said. We'd just have to take it for granted that the people are reading our stuff.

So, if you post a thought-provoking essay, consider that people may wish to THINK about what you've written before mouthing off. This is the mark of a good post.
If you posted something important and personal, consider that perhaps people are waiting for an opportunity to communicate with you more directly about said event.
If you posted something really cool that you feel is commendable, consider that perhaps it's not as original as you thought. And console yourself with the warm knowledge that there are no flame-wars or trolls or obnoxious people taking up your valuable time and space with their incoherent babblings.

And STFU.
