I just received word that my grandmother passed away yesterday.

This would be the one who was married to my Silly Grandpa. The one who said, "Oh, you know I like to collect WEIRD THINGS, why do you think I married your grandfather?"

The one who taught me that sewing and crafting can take on any shape and flavor. The one who was losing her sight and in order to keep from losing her mind she tried every kind of crafting known to humankind, so that she could express her creativity.

The one who called me Sleeping Beauty and explained to my mother about "hatching" (which is the period between being awakened and actually rising from the bed. For some people it is very brief and unnoticeable. For me it can take up to an hour.)

The one who taught me what the Red Hat was about, in so many ways.

The one who loved and cared for my grandfather, even when his health was failing and he stopped being kind to her.

The one who made all those quilts. The one who took me to her Crazy Ladies meeting so I could meet all her crazy-quilter friends. The one who ran an upscale resale boutique benefiting the American Cancer Society, and kept all the donations that were too weird to sell as a special treat for me.

I was very blessed to have three grandmothers.
I lost Nonnie when I was 18. I still miss her.
My Silly Grandma has been my grandma since I turned three and she married my Silly Grandpa. So despite the fact that I'm not blood-related to her, she is still my grandma.
She was a powerful blessing in my life.
