Thing Two

I really like Roommate Two.

I'm excited to add her to the household. However, she is trying to move in a huge quantity of stuff.

Oy.

She rented a truck and hauled it all here last night. This morning we managed to get everything out of the truck, but her things are still all over my porch and yard. She brought helpers who loaded everything and unloaded more than half of it, and this morning I recruited some additional help to get the truck cleared so she could return it.
(I say "we" did this; I made calls and went back to bed. Having cleared everything out of that back bedroom on my own plus the hallway in between kind of did me in for the weekend.)

Tonight I have to go to my mom's old house to retrieve things; they have until next weekend to get everything out.

SO:
I could use a hand in the following ways: Helping my roommate bring her things into my house. This is NOT a discreet move-in, and I expect a letter from the city soon demanding that I get a new occupancy permit. Said permit is going to be very difficult to acquire with this much stuff in my house.
At this point, we need to retrieve pallets from the trailer in the yard to put in the basement so she can at least bring things into the house.

Installing shelves and a clothes bar in her closet: I have all the equipment to do this (I think) but none of the time.

Helping me load things at Mom's house into my truck, and also helping me unload them at my house.

Helping me remove things from my house by loading them into my truck: I have some items I can dump, which might make this move in go more smoothly. See separate post about what these things are in case you want them.

My doll convention is next weekend. I'm out of time to spend on the STUFF projects.

HALP!!

I have some furniture that needs to GO. I'm going to throw this out there to all of you first, before I throw it on Freecycle and Craigslist.

Some of it is pretty awesome but I have no use for it or can't maintain a footprint for it. Some of it needs to get reshuffled so I can put the new things in the places currently occupied by the old things.

Two matching (opposite) fainting couches: God I love these things, and I always wanted a "fainting couch". They are a cream/yellow/tan kind of color with a small print. Wooden legs and details. I'm going to be honest; I found these on the curb originally, and tossed them into the back of my truck. We used one of them for the Steampunque Burlesque show at Conflation a few years ago. They're in good condition, though my cat likes to sleep on them so I can guarantee cat hairs on both of them. I've taken to putting fleece throws on them all the time so that I can just toss the throw in the wash.
NOTE: I also need help retrieving them from the bay window in my dining room.

Craft cabinet/shelving unit: A store fixture from Jackman's Fabrics, this has pegboard and two glass shelves. It's maybe four feet tall and maybe 30" wide? Ish? I intended to use it for Embroidery stuff including housing my hoops on pegs, but my sewing room is occupied. I love this cabinet but it has no where to go. I can figure something out later when I get my room back.

Thread Cabinets: I have two thread cabinets, the kind used in retail to store and showcase sewing threads. They're pretty cool and one of them has a nifty drawer at the bottom. I snagged them for The Ladiez in case they could use them for merchandising, since the shelves can be removed entirely for more space in-between. The Ladiez don't need them.

Plant Stand: [livejournal.com profile] alphak10 had this in her room while she was my Thing One. It's a gorgeous multi-level plant stand with little platforms. I snagged it for festivals and fairs to display merchandise. I don't do that anymore, so the plant stand needs to go.

Shorty the Bookcase: I have this short bookcase, with two shelves. It's from my childhood, and it's where I used to store my fairytale books. I can probably find a spot for it, but I don't mind getting rid of it.

Damaged Secretary: I have this old secretary desk thing that has taken some damage (before I got it.) I think it was leaked on, and I am struggling to remember where I even got the thing. It has a display area on top with three shelves and a glass front with wood scrollwork. The leaf for the desk is in excellent condition and lifts up and down smoothly. (As long as you don't have the desk area crammed full of stuff.)
Two drawers underneath and assorted cubby holes in the desk area.
The exterior is somewhat rough but the interior is gorgeous. I used to display dolls and faerie treasures in the glass cabinet, but I have other options now. Plus I have this huge roll-top desk to use for desk-y things, so I no longer need the secretary. It's also weirdly low; it could have had a pedestal or something originally. I am considering putting it on top of a short chest of drawers or something.

Art Bin: I actually have two of these, I think. One is in the attic, the other in the Shed. These are the black bins that you can stand up art prints in. They're leftovers from Name That Con, I think. If any of you artists want these to display your art prints at events, let me know and I'll get them to you.

Dollhosue: NO NOT THAT ONE. (I'm keeping the victorian mansion. Sorry.) I do have a 70s era dollhouse made with that weird technology of vinyl over cardboard. It's not perfect, but some young person might enjoy playing in it with their dolls.

BINDERS: Oh my goodness, my father foisted off some binders on me and I don't need them or want them. 3-ring mostly recycled. I'm betting that he brought these home from SLUH when they were going to be thrown away and he couldn't stand to see them go in a landfil. I'm hoping that I can find the person in St. Louis who needs these dumb things. I sure as hell don't need them. Gah.

Things I need to sell rather than give away:

Steamer trunks: I have a few of these and they just plain need to go. I think two of them are metal and at least one is cheaper pressboard. I'd like to pick up some cash for them so make me an offer. I'm keeping the oversized one and maybe one of the metal ones, but that leaves me like three of these things.

Vintage/Antique Necchi machine in a gorgeous cabinet: THIS IS NOT FREE. This is a very nice sewing machine which I will clean and oil before pick-up. The bobbin winder does not work properly but if I have a buyer I will see if I can repair that function. Straight stitch and zig-zag functions, no cams. This machine is likely from the 60s or 70s. It is NOT an industrial Necchi which all the costumers were abuzz over years ago. However, it is the machine I did most of my award-winning costuming on before I fell in love with Babylock. It has its manual, several presser foot attachments, and four drawers in the cabinet. I'll throw in a bunch of empty bobbins as well. I want $100 for it, negotiable.
I own 14 sewing machines. I don't need all of them.

Hand-crank antique Harris sewing machine: THIS IS NOT FREE. As if I need it. It's in beautiful condition and is perfectly functional. It's also heavy as hell even though it's a 3/4 sized "portable" machine. I got it for a steampunk display, and I love it but I'm not going to use it any time soon. If I ever get to a point where I have the space to display such a treasure, I will also have the disposable income to acquire a different one.

Singer Fashion Mate sewing machine. This machine is from the 70s, I think? I bought it a long time ago from A Certain Master Level Costumer who I refer to as Glinda in this blog. I paid her $40 for it. I'd like that same amount for it now. I will clean and oil it for the potential buyer. It also has a finicky bobbin winder but I'm going to see if I can fix it (since I CAN now.) A lot of my award winning costumes were also made on this machine, as well as a ton of Faerie costumes.

I need to take stock of the other sewing machines. I have a vintage (antique?) Black singer which is not a featherweight. I have an old Viking (pre-Husquevarna). I'm not 100% sure what all else I have, other than a couple of toy sewing machines I am willing to part with for small money. (Kind of a give me ten bucks and take it away thing.)
