More clarification abut my communication:
For my cell phone, I am piggybacking someone else's account. This is basically the only way I can afford to have a cell phone.
As such, I am NOT the person who makes the decisions about what kind of plan we have; my *name* isn't even listed on the account. The plan we have does not include texting, and my own phone also has no data (which I am very comfortable with.)
Personally, I *like* texting. However, if you text my phone, it costs me money with each text. Usually somewhere between 25-50 cents. What's more, that charge goes to the people who share their phone plan with me. So you're really sticking THEM with an additional fee.
HOWEVER, I OWN AN IPAD.
If you have an i-device (Ipad, Iphone) you can connect with me using the "Messages" feature! I love this app! The only downside is that I have to have wi-fi to use it. I have facetime also, but my forward facing camera and microphone don't work particularly well.
I also have Google Hangouts. It's Gmail's texting feature and I like it, too. I can do it from my Ipad or my home computer.
See? I'm tech-savvy. I like new things. I adore my Ipad. I'm stuck in the year 2000 with my cell phone, but that's not my choice.
Call me, message me, email me, post to LJ or DeviantArt, post to email lists... I'll see it. I'll respond.
