Part of why I started this journal had to do with having plenty to say.
Part had more to do with the exercise of writing on a regular basis. Writing is a skill that requires practice, and I was getting good practice on here.
I still do get plenty of practice here, and I fully intend to keep going with this journal. I love feedback and comments, but I understand if my readers have moved on to greener pastures.
I have found other outlets for my writing, and one of them is fan fiction. I'm finding it to be a lovely springboard into original stories, some of which I'm cultivating right now. In the mean time, I always have loved playing in other people's worlds, and I get to do that with my fan fic.
KawaKon has both a Fan Fiction and a Frack Fiction contest. This year I realized that I had some pieces that might qualify, so I submitted something.
I won second place!
Part of the contest is getting to hear your story read aloud, so I went to the reading. I was disappointed because the only people in the room were three of the writers. Ok, I dragged a friend along with me, as did the other writers. However, I had hoped for a crowd. On the other hand, I cheerfully read my fic aloud any time I want. I don't mind if someone else reads it, but I know the inflections and cadences of the conversations. My first successful writing was in the form of staged plays, so I genuinely enjoy not only writing the dialogue, but performing it as well.
On the other hand, I did make the woman reading my piece crack up and startled her a few times. I think she genuinely liked it, which was gratifying in and of itself.
The first place winner happened to be the con chairman, so she told me to take her prize as well. I have two new Anime series to watch! (Movie night at my place?)
Assuming it fits the bill, perhaps I'll submit my smut next time. Mwa ha ha.
For those who might like to read the story, I've stuck it under the cut.
