Modern Living
Apr. 5th, 2012 10:15 amSigh. This is one of those days where I am sick of being a grown-up.
The gas company threatened to shut off my gas, so I had to scramble a bit to get the minimum payment in. Fortunately, I was able to scrape together enough to do so.
However, now I'm cleaned out. I knew I shouldn't have FILLED the gas tank when I got back. Damn.
Utilities, my old nemesis. I have a hard enough time handling the house/rent payment and managing my damn CAR. I really shouldn't have gone to Alabama, but I know how valuable my visits are to him and frankly getting to see him a couple of times a year is important for my own sanity. Having some assistance for that trip meant that I *was* able to scrape together the money for the gas company.
It would be really nice to become self-sufficient and off the grid. I dream about this kind of thing because I love how Lothlorien handles their stuff. Heck, part of me is annoyed that I have to pay the city for water when my basement fills with the stuff during all the warm months. I wish that I had the wherewithall to treat the water and *USE* it. I could have rain barrels and a pump under the house to pull the water out of the ground. Heck, if I was able to pull enough water I'd be doing the NEIGHBORHOOD a favor.
I'd be delighted to put solar panels on the roof and keep a bank of batteries. Not sure about the natural gas though. I do SO love my gas stove.
Gah.
