Halloween Approaches!
Oct. 19th, 2012 10:45 amIt's my annual celebration of All Hallows' Eve!
You are invited, as are your friends, your family, and your children! My neighborhood is a great place to trick-or-treat. RSVPs are always appreciated (so I can plan food) but it's ok to just show up, too.
On October 31st, starting around 5pm we will "haunt" the house with many ghosts and spirits and prepare to give candy to the neighborhood children. Please don't arrive early unless you make a special arrangement in advance.
I will be serving food and drink, though contributions to the pot luck are always appreciated. We will be playing some movies on the projector to help calm down the kiddies who are on a sugar high. :D I have Ghostbusters, and I am going to try to hunt down copies of Ghostbusters 2 and The Frighteners. I will also have a "Funny Ghost Story" round-robbin. Please remember that there will be little kids, so keep your ghost stories entertaining and fun, not gross and scary. :D
The porch is where the action is, and I will have it set with a table, chairs under white sheets, and creepy ghosts hanging from the gutters. We'll have "candlelight" and also some blacklights. People on the porch should be dressed as some kind of ghost or ghostly character. Make-up and cheesecloth will be provided for those who have no ghostly costuming. Feel free to bring candy to add to the trick-or-treat tub, but please do not bring chewing gum to my home. Non-candy party favors are also appreciated. As usual, anyone who comes to trick-or-treat without a costume will be offered an opportunity to become "one of us". I will have ghostly shrouds to offer to those children. Anyone who plays to our theme will get a bonus prize.
For costume inspiration, consider your favorite "haunted house" stories. Casper the Friendly ghost, the Ghosts of Hogwarts, Ghosts busted by the Ghostbusters, helpful ghosts from "The Frighteners", or perhaps a ghost from your own imagination or experience. I want to stress that we are supposed to be friendly ghosts, not super-scary ghosts.
I have invited members of the local Ghostbusters club to come in their uniforms and proton packs to roam the front yard and scan incoming goblins. If you have a Ghostbusters costume or wish to dress as a non-ghost character from the Ghostbusters universe, we encourage you to join in on the fun in the front yard!
As always, the rule on Halloween is: "Arrive in the costume of your choice, or wear the costume of MY choice." Costumes do not have to be elaborate or award-winning. Wearing overalls and an engineer's cap and claiming to be the ghost of the abandoned rail yard is just as good as throwing a sheet over your head with a hundred eye-holes in it. (Yes, I'd be delighted to see a Charlie Brown ghost!) Wear your favorite white or grey clothes and make up a story about your "character". Wear a shirt with a ghost on it. (Such shirts can be ordered from your friendly neighborhood embroidery business. *Shameless Plug*) If your halloween costume does not coincide with my theme, I'm fine with that. Traditional Halloween favorites are always welcome, as are recreations of characters from movies, TV, books, music videos, and video games. I always welcome pirates, steampunks, lost time travelers, and animals of all varieties to my home.
I expect the party to last until after kiddies' bedtimes, probably around 10pm.
One last note: Cats live in my house. Please take your allergy medicine before you come, and don't let the cats escape while you are here.
