I am gearing up for the Midsummer Night's Dream performance. Unfortunately, I was missing 6 of my cast members for my initial rehearsal and "audition."

Mach Nicht.

I am going to end up rehearsing this in sections, anyway.
I also found out that I have a tiger by the tail. The dear friend of mine that I have entrusted with the role of Bottom the Weaver... is so well-trained and talented that he's raising the bar for all of my actors; including me. For the first time ever, I suddenly realize that I don't have to carry the show.

Ahhh.

Now I can focus upon my directing.

But.

I do want to tell a story. There are two shows that I have been involved with that will forever be held up as the standard for awful productions.
The Jungle Book. )
Next up; Never Piss Off Dionysus.

So, here's the set up for the Worst Production Ever:

The Play: Euripides' "Helen."
The venue: An Ancient Greek Festival.
The Producer: [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks

3 months out: Full cast gets together. Lead actor is director and playing the lead, Helen. Actor #2 is playing Menelaus. Actor #3 is playing all the great character parts.

5 weeks out, the director/actor #1 drops out, saying that there is no way to be ready in time. Actor #2 steps up and says that he thinks that they can do it anyway. Takes the spot vacated by the Director, and actor #3 steps up into the role of Actor #2; Menelaus.

I get a phone call. Even though they were trying most desperately to do this as properly as possible, they are out of men to be actors and need an experienced character actress to step up and help out.

I got cast as Actor #3. I read over the play and decided that this could still work.
